Computers, Sister Calderwood and the Perkins
Had another little project going for the Housing Board--making labels for the units missionaries are in! A lot of excitement this week with the new finance secretary and a new couple, the Perkins coming in. Elder Perkins ended up being Tim's LTM teacher back in 1977. Elder Perkins had just returned from South Africa and taught Tim Afrikaans. What a coincidence!
And...we got new computers installed in the office. I honestly didn't think the computers would come during our mission because things take so long to happen here. They promised us new office chairs in April and we still don't have them!
It's so nice having computers that actually do what they're supposed to do. It was frustrating using old ones that were messed up. We can actually get on the mission One Drive too which we couldn't previously. With only 6 months of our mission left, I'm in tutorial mode for the new couple that will replace us. I want them to be able to access all of my files so the One Drive is important. Along with the upgrade, we also got a second screen which Tim and I have never had before. It's fun being able to keep something on one screen and having something else on a second screen.
Last week the Turneys arrived and the President Vongsawad wanted them to stay close instead of going north. The problem was we didn't have any couple flats down here. He decided to put the Turneys in Mermaid Waters and move the newly moved-in sisters back into their flat with four sisters and one bathroom! We felt really bad about the sisters going back to their old flat and were glad we didn't have to make the phone call.
This presented a new housing problem. The flat was furnished for sisters and not a couple so it had twin beds. We needed to buy a queen bed. The twin beds would now go into a guest room. We needed bedding for the twin beds and a queen bed plus bedding for that! And it's an hour and a half away! Also, seniors get lamps for the nightstands in their bedroom and a nightstand to put in between the twins in their guest bedroom. Wow. The Turneys were anxious to move in because they had been in limbo for about a week and were staying with our mission leaders. We had a zone conference on Thursday which was 45 minutes south of us so we decided to combine the conference and the shopping and the moving in. It was a long, exhausting day but we were able to buy a queen bed for them and ended up buying a bigger table and 4 chairs for them. We didn't expect the new bed to be ready that day so the Turneys were happy to sleep on the twins for a few nights--it arrived Saturday morning.
We're hoping to be able to rest for awhile since we don't have any flats to set up in the foreseeable future, knock on wood. I had to order about three appliances for different flats during all of this setting up mess too! Tim was going crazy trying to keep up with all of the repairs. Never a dull moment in the mission field.
We love you all, think of you often and thank you for all of your prayers in our behalf. Hugs and kisses.
